Bay College Announces “Health Career and College Fair”

News

Bay College is hosting a “Health Career and College Fair” on Tuesday, March 28 from 1pm – 3pm EST on the Escanaba campus in the Besse Galleries.  There will be more than thirty-five healthcare organizations from across the Upper Peninsula, as well as North Eastern and Central Wisconsin.  The organizations will represent a broad range of career opportunities from inpatient and acute, to long term and rehabilitation, to outpatient clinic and home health.  In addition to direct patient care positions like nursing, medical assistants and care aides, there will also be the opportunity for employment in the following areas: dietary, maintenance, reception/admin, medical coding, social workers, physical therapy, phlebotomy, radiology, and seasonal positions at Bay Cliff Health Camp.

"This health career job fair has been an event that our [Bay College] Nursing Advisory Board has requested, to bring all of our healthcare organizations to one convenient location to allow for easy access for all of the people seeking jobs within the allied health division of employment.” says Jennifer Farnsworth, coordinator of this event and Bay College instructor.

According to the Michigan Works! website, in Michigan alone, there are more than 27, 000 job openings throughout healthcare related fields.  This number includes 8,500 nursing jobs; 3,000 clinical assistants and 1,700 operational support areas.  “I was determined to make the event happen this year, to bring these employers together to help them fill the many employment vacancies that currently exist in our local and regional healthcare facilities.  In addition, it is an excellent opportunity for those students at Bay, as well as the community, to explore the many options of employment that are available in our local area.  Hopefully this will be a successful event that we can plan to have yearly!" states Farnsworth.

Plus, local colleges will be in attendance.  Farnsworth mentions, "we will also have representatives from Bay College, Lake Superior University and Northern Michigan University to assist with students that may be seeking to further their education in the health careers division."

This event is entirely free and open to the public.  If you are exploring alternative career paths, seeking new opportunities in the healthcare sector, or curious about college, this is the event for you.  For questions, contact Jennifer Farnsworth, farnswoj_FROM_BAY_COLLEGE.
