Bay College announces an exhibition, NEW WORKS by artist Yvonne LeMire. The reception and artist talk will take place on Thursday, November 16 at 2 pm ET in the Hartwig Gallery. Yvonne’s work will be on display from November 2 to December 15, 2023.

Yvonne LeMire, a sculptor, jeweler and welder, works out of Marquette near the shores of Lake Superior. She graduated from Northern Michigan University in 1999 with a B.F.A. in Sculpture and a secondary concentration in furniture design.  Yvonne joined the Studio Gallery in 1996 as an assistant and became gallery manager and an exhibiting artist. She started work at NMU as an assistant instructor in 2000 and continues to teach there today as full time Welding Instructor.  She has additionally taught jewelry and sculpture classes in the Art and Design Department and assisted with a regional grant funded project called, All Day Art Day, as an instructor. In 2008, she opened, Fern Place Art Space, with two partners and exhibited work there and hosted Friday night shop-darts until 2017.  In 2014, she earned American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) and Certified Welding Educator (CWE) status and uses those credentials doing training and testing for Upper Peninsula companies between semesters. Much of her custom commissioned work can be seen throughout the Marquette area. She has won numerous awards, was included in the March/April 2007 edition of Art Showcase Magazine, in ‘The Art of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula’ segment and was a feature story in 1999 for Michigan Public Radio’s Arts and Humanities Radio Project.

An exhibit of new works, including welded steel sculpture and photographs.  These works are compositional studies comprised of found and recycled materials.

The Art and Design program at Bay College is designed to provide students with a strong general education background as well as concentration in art and design. This program is designed for students who wish to transfer to a four-year college or university. Students should work closely with an academic advisor to select courses needed for their intended major at the four-year institution they plan to attend. The school, through the Besse Gallery and Hartwig Gallery, also provides students with exposure to exhibitions, visiting artists, and artist talk’s exemplifying the cultural breadth of the visual arts from national, regional, and local sources, including the College's permanent art collection. Studios include professional facilities and equipment in Ceramics, Photography, Digital Cinema, Graphic Arts, Painting, Drawing, Sculpture, Performance and Installation.
